As contracting enters a new era in Ireland and utilities and energy projects come to the fore, it’s important to be aware of different forms of engineering and construction contracts and how they can relate to your projects.

The NEC and FIDIC are both among the most popular standard forms of engineering and construction contracts used on projects both in the UK and internationally. However, they have fundamentally different approaches to the way projects should be managed and conducted. This course will offer a focus on contracting using the NEC and FIDIC standard forms.

Drawing on her own international projects experience, Fiona Forde B.L. will bring attendees up to speed on how to work with these forms of contract, how to deal with claims arising under the forms and in particular prepare attendees for the transition from traditional dispute resolution under the standard Irish forms to NEC adjudication and the use of FIDIC DABs. A barrister and a mechanical engineer, Fiona will focus on the technical elements of both bringing and dealing with money and time claims under the forms.

All examples, case studies and topics will deal specifically with the FIDIC and NEC forms. Fiona will provide attendees with a comprehensive overview of the most recent decisions including the latest TCC and ICC decisions addressing the various issues arising from FIDIC and NEC projects so that attendees will have hugely benficial insight of lessons learned to utilise in their own projects.

Fiona is a Mechanical Engineer and a practising Barrister specialising in building and construction law, public procurement, arbitration/dispute resolution and mediation.

Fiona trained in London with the legal team of a large international consulting engineering firm and was the legal adviser to their Irish offices.

Called to the Irish Bar in 2002, Fiona lectures on the Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Law and Contract Administration in Trinity College Dublin and on the Law Society Diploma in Civil Litigation.

Training Environment:

CMG Professional Training courses take place at our state-of-the-art training facility in the Apex Building situated in the Beacon Quarter of Sandyford Industrial Estate, Dublin 18. The CMG Training Centre is accessible by the Luas, (Sandyford line, Stillorgan stop – 6 mins walk) several bus options (the number 11 travels from O Connell street Dublin and stops directly outside the training centre) and we are situated very close to the M50 at the Beacon Hospital corner. There are several car parks within a three minute walk from the training centre with very competitive ‘all day’ parking rates and we have a range of coffee shops (including Starbucks) as well as shops and restaurants nearby.
